Story

Get to Know The Church

Chariton Christian Church is a staple community in the city of Chariton, having been founded in the early 1860s. We currently reside at 1100 Ilion Ave., after moving from our previous church building in 1971. The bell outside the building (pictured to the left) was installed on our previous church and moved to our location in 1986. The bell is rung every Sunday to announce worship.

We are a congregation in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) tradition, which values diversity of thought under the umbrella of Christ. In this denomination, we call ourselves a "movement for wholeness in a fractured world." We allow and encourage questions and seek to live our lives with compassion and intentionality.

We pride ourselves in hospitality and service, seeking to improve our community through tangible care initiatives and charities. As a church, we are the hands and feet of Christ in the world, and we seek to fulfill the demands of Christian life through our acts of love and worship.
